Dahlia101B: Growing Healthy Dahlias for Cut Flower Production

$100.00

Sunday, May 18 2025

2:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Wilding Hope Farm 229 Cuba Mills Road, Mifflintown, PA, 17059United States

Part 2 of our 3 course series on growing, harvesting, and designing with these gorgeous blooms!

In Dahlia 101B we will talk about how to grow the healthiest plants for the maximum number of blooms. Attendees will learn about soil enrichment, proper planting depth, water needs and irrigation, interplanting with understory plants that attract pollinators for pest management, and solutions for weed control. We’ll spend some time getting our hands dirty planting dahlia tubers and rooted cutting starts in the field. We’ll also do a final round of rooting cuttings from tubers for those looking to increase their stock quickly.

Because we overwinter many of our dahlias in tunnels and in the field which gives them a head start, we will spend the second half of the workshop learning how to “pinch” dahlias to promote multiple stems, demonstrate proper staking and corralling to protect against wind and storms, and we’ll talk about organic methods of pest and disease control.

Attendees will leave with their choice of 3 dahlia varieties started from the 2025 season’s cuttings.
